Winner of the Third “International and Comparative Disaster Law Essay Contest”
In August 2020, the winner of the third “International and Comparative Disaster Law Essay Contest” was announced. The winner is Rhys Carvosso, a recent LLM graduate from the University of Cambridge. Originally from Sydney, Australia, with a paper on “Techniques for Regulating Disasters across the Breadth of International Law: Disapplication, Exculpation, and their Shortcomings”. The contest is co-sponsored by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the American Society of International Law Disaster Law Interest Group (ASIL DLIG), the Jean Monnet Project ‘Disseminating Disaster Law for Europe’ at Roma Tre University. The abstracts and essays were graded in a confidential manner and the judges who marked the abstracts and essays were:

- Mr. Arnold Pronto, Principal Legal Officer, Codification Division, Office of Legal Affairs, United Nations
- Ms. Anastasia Telesetsky, Professor at University of Idaho and Chair of the Disaster Law Interest Group of the American Society of International Law
